The Kenyan Karaoke Industry
The Kenyan karaoke industry has grown from a value of Kes. 315,000 in 2007 to Kes. 5,767,000 in 2011. Statistics from my reports show that Nairobi entertainment spots spent an average of Kes. 12,000 on karaoke related activities in 2011, compared to Kes. 6,000 in 2010.
These figures reflect the increasing popularity of karaoke, a trend that is showing no signs of waning.
More and more people are considering karaoke as an alternative entertainment activity. People are looking for more engaging forms of events and are demanding more these days – absolutely.
And, because people want the best entertainment form, there is also an increase for custom amusement services. Across Kenya the karaoke industry has seen an explosion of growth over the last three years.
Our Position in the Industry
Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa are cosmopolitan cities with a high density of energetic young and middle aged adults. People in these areas are culturally exposed, willing to do the unexpected and can afford to spend money on karaoke night outs and are willing to do so.
Our market research has shown that 3 out of 5 club goers polled in Nairobi would prefer to have at least one karaoke themed night and the other 1 out of 5 would consider attending karaoke every day of the week.
The Competition
While there are currently only two businesses offering karaoke services in Nairobi, all operate as suppliers and none offers karaoke based events for corporate and private occasions.
Currently the industry is dominated by Mista Karoge and Cloudnine Interaction who have been in business since 2006 controlling over 80% of the market share. The other player is Soul Masterz and individual club owners controlling the remaining 20% share.
